Summary
Public officers have done hard work of gathering a list of useful locations and want to share them with citizens. Agencies currently share this information as raw text, PDF files, onboard to GoWhere, hire vendors to build custom directories or use embedded Google Maps.
We have built Maps - a cheaper, faster and better way for public officers to create and update maps easily, while also providing citizens with responsive, searchable and beautiful maps.
Just 3 steps to create a map:
Login with your gov.sg email address
Upload a list of addresses
Publish to share/embed the newly created map
In the past four weeks, we have implemented the above and supported two additional features: Search and Filter toggles (e.g. for a map of merchants accepting NEA Climate Vouchers, citizens can search for the exact store name or filter to show only stores that sell refrigerators).

A map with search and filters, generated from a single file upload - all done within 5 minutes
Agencies that want to onboard to Maps include NEA, NParks, MUIS, SportSG and more. Maps is expected to reach 1 million citizens by mid-2025 through the current pipeline of agency projects.
We also envision bringing Maps to other OGP products and have engaged other teams such as Isomer, RedeemSG and Data.gov.
Imagine citizens having easy-access to contextualised location information on all government websites.
Imagine citizens knowing exactly where to spend their government-distributed vouchers.
Imagine citizens discovering Singapore's open data come alive through interactive maps.
Drop us an email at maps@open.gov.sg if you would like to be the first few agencies to onboard to this new Maps experience for citizens.

Our problem statement
Officers have a useful list of locations but lack the tools to create maps easily. As a result, citizens are unable to access clear, contextual, and relevant location information about government services.
How agencies share location information now
Agencies currently share location information with citizens in five different ways (such as a PDF file, as raw text, hire vendors to build custom directories, use an embedded Google Map, onboard to GoWhere and have a separate site).
1. Locations are shared as PDF files

Considerations: Citizens are unable to quickly search nearby locations, or filter the list based on categories.
2. Locations are shared as raw text

Considerations: Citizens are unable to identify exact flood locations on affected roads, contextualise flood locations to familiar landmarks (e.g. MRT stations, shopping malls), or determine their proximity to flooded areas.
3. Onboard to GoWhere

Considerations: Agencies are required to create a separate site and are unable to embed a map into their existing page.
4. Hire vendors to build custom directories

Considerations: Agencies need to spend money to engage a vendor, take time to get a directory up, and are unable to make instant updates once the site goes live.
5. Use an embedded Google Map

Considerations: Agencies manually update multiple CSV files to maintain separate map layers for filters (e.g. NEA's CFHP map require updates across 10 different CSV files whenever changes occur)
