HoodGoods started with a team who wondered why it was so hard to find home-based businesses (HBBs) near us. We wanted to know if there was a way to help both consumers like ourselves discover HBBs, and business owners improve their visiblity and customer reach. Thus, HoodGoods was born.

Research & Approach

The team surveyed 65 people, both consumers (70%) to find out what their biggest issues were when buying from HBBs, and HBB owners / aspiring HBB owners (30%) to find out what their biggest issues were in owning a HBB.

Of the consumers, we discovered that majority (67%) of those who did not purchase from HBBs cited "do not know where to find them" as the main reason why, and those who did purchase from HBBs usually found out (80%) about these HBBs through "word of mouth".

Of the business owners and aspiring business owners, the main issue faced was "marketing and promotion" (65%), and "marketing support" (75%) was highlighted as the most beneficial support they could receive.

Solution

HoodGoods, an abbreviation of "Neighbourhood Goods", was created to bridge the gap between users to easily discover, locate, and engage with home-based businesses, and business owners having a simple platform to showcase their business, story behind their business, and their products.
