Got Lobang?
10 February 2025
Helping social workers find items for those in need
Got Lobang? was built to add to the range of tools that social workers use to find items for the people that they look after, by showing items that may match their requests at a glance.
Problem Statement and Scope
Social workers currently spend significant amounts of time looking for freely available items for their clients, across a range of platforms, including PassItOn, Carousell and others, as well as arranging for delivery. This is time that could be better spent looking after the people that they are responsible for.
Kampung Spirit is effective at addressing the crux of the problem, though it does so in a very different way, namely, through crowdfunding of new items, and having the merchant arrange the delivery.
Given the ad-hoc nature of negotiating for an item donation, and the amount of time we had available for this project, we looked specifically at the process of searching for items.
Solution
Got Lobang? was built to help social workers more quickly find items for the people that they look after. It identifies matches on PassItOn, a popular platform for item requests and donations, displaying them on a single page, saving social workers time spent searching for items on the platform. For certain kinds of items, Got Lobang? also provides links to perform quick searches on other platforms, like Carousell.
Challenges Faced
The single biggest difficulty faced by this product is engaging our target users (namely, social workers) to talk about their challenges, and to try the product and give feedback. As the members of the team were working on other products during Hack for Public Good 2025, engagements were severely limited to cold emailing social workers using the matches found on the product.
Next Steps
Given the near-zero cost of maintaining Got Lobang?, we intend to keep the product running as long as we can, while finding users that we can speak to. Where we have time, we wish to add other sources for items, and improve matching accuracy.
